An introduction to engineering :
Engineering is a profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences is applied to the efficient use of the materials and forces of nature. An engineer is therefore a person who has received professional training in pure and applied science; however, there are also individuals such as technicians and drafters who apply scientific and engineering skills to technical problems.

The Civil and Industrial Engineering trade:
Civil engineering encompasses construction engineering, irrigation engineering, transport engineering, soils and foundation engineering, hydraulic engineering, and ocean engineering. It is the broadest of the engineering fields taking care of the environment, providing facilities for living, industry, and transport. Civil engineers are trained in all types of surveying, of the properties and mechanics of construction materials, the mechanics of structures and soils, and of hydraulics and fluid mechanics. |
